Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav left freight rates unchanged in the interim budget released on Friday in order to offset increases in traffic and road transportation resulting from cheaper diesel prices.

He also mentioned the decrease in the growth rate of steel traffic, which has affected freight loading and earnings.
