Textile and Apparel sector comprising of MSMEs has been adversely affected due to rise in price of cotton. Industry associations has raised concern and urged Government to revise the 5.5 million (mn) bales export quota for raw cotton. The Centre, however, has decided to retain status quo as far as raw cotton export goes.
In a Committee of Secretaries meet, a decision has been taken to export 5.5 mn bales (170 kg each) of raw cotton. Small garment manufacturers and exporters have been impacted by the rising input costs and some kind of revision in raw cotton export quota limit is necessary.
The 66th All India Textile Conference (AITC) scheduled to be held on 28-29 January in Karnataka. It will be organized by Textile Association of India (TAI) at Bengaluru in its Nimhans Convention Hall. The theme of the conference shall be ‘Expanding Sustainable limits to India’s positioning in global textiles and clothing.’ The strengths and weaknesses of textile sector shall be ascertained during the conference. Measures will be deciphered for making the sector economically and technically competent in global market. Attendees from India and abroad will be seen in the conference.
